FISP Membership
Two levels of membership are available depending on how advanced a company’s sustainability programme is at the time of membership.
All members receive a sector specific manual providing comprehensive advice, examples and checklists on all relevant sustainability issues.

Associate Membership
Companies who feel they cannot achieve Full Membership immediately and require time to implement systems to improve their sustainability. FIRA provide the sustainability work book and an advice line, FIRA can also assess their checklist and provide feedback on it. FIRA in addition can offer consultancy to help them achieve full membership.
Full Membership
All full members are subjected to a comprehensive audit and are expected to complete an annual survey. The results of the survey are published as an annual report which offers members invaluable information and benchmarking opportunities.
Companies who become full members of the programme comply with set criteria as detailed below, and must fulfil two core commitments:
| The documentation and implementation of an environmental policy statement |
| Legal compliance with environmental and health and safety legislation |
All companies must show evidence of compliance. The remainder of the criteria offers a choice of commitments, with at least five of the nine environmental options being in place and a minimum of three of the six social and economic:
Environmental:
• Environmental Management Systems
• Waste Management
• Energy Management
• Packaging
• Transport
• Procurement Policies
• Sustainable Timber Purchasing
• Emissions
• End of Life
Social and economic:
• Nuisance Issues
• Community Relations and charity work
• Education and Training
• Employment
• Ethical issues
• Competitiveness
